Former Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency and prominent lawyer Ali Hussain has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is working to provide a foothold for Zionists in the central region of the Maldives' largest island, asserting that the Maldivian people must take action to stop this.
Expressing concern over the agreement to award a significant portion of the Ras Male' project to Abu Dhabi’s Eagle Hills company, Ali Hussain stated during a program on RaajjeTV that the deal effectively sidelines the Maldivian judicial system and the jurisdiction of its courts. He further noted that since such agreements with foreign entities are signed abroad, they are governed by foreign laws, meaning any legal disputes would have to be settled through international arbitration outside the Maldives.
Ali Hussain further emphasized that any agreement concerning Maldivian land, particularly one involving an area as vast as 500 hectares, must be signed on Maldivian soil. He noted that major international law firms are being consulted to evaluate the potential legal implications of such matters, highlighting that both the venue of signing and the legal jurisdiction are matters of critical importance.
"This is a situation from which there is no escape. The Maldivian people must stand up. Whether leasing or, as I believe in this case, selling Maldivian land—especially when signing away a territory as vast as 500 hectares—such an agreement must never be signed anywhere other than on Maldivian soil. This is because of the significant implications involved. The legal implications are well-understood by them; these Zionists are calculated. Describing this as a crime, Ali Hussain stated that those responsible must be prosecuted.
Ali Hussain stated that the current administration's decisions regarding the leasing and sale of land under the Ras Male' project facilitate corruption, and asserted that criminal charges must be brought against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in connection with this matter.
