The Member of Parliament for Vaikaradhoo constituency, Hussain Ziyad, has characterized the government's national campaign on "showing respect" as an initiative designed to condition the public to remain silent in the face of the President's wrongdoings.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "TV Talk" program, MP Ziyad stated that the objective of the "Respect" campaign is to drive the country toward a state where citizens remain silent even when the government fails to fulfill its pledges.
The Member of Parliament for the Vaikaradhoo constituency has expressed deep concern regarding this campaign. He stated that it is highly likely the next step will be the introduction of legislation mandating the show of respect.
In his remarks, MP Ziyad stated that the "Respect Campaign" is an effort aimed at obstructing the fundamental rights of the people. He further noted that this campaign would diminish the public's opportunity to criticize the government.
The national campaign to promote respect is a nationwide initiative launched by the government. According to the government, the primary objective of this campaign is to strengthen the culture of mutual respect within Maldivian society.
However, According to MP Ziyad, this is not the true objective of the campaign.
