No suspicious transactions occurred during my tenure as Treasurer: Musthafa delivers sharp rebuke to Abdul Raheem

Former Chief of Staff Ahmed Musthafa has issued a stern rebuttal to Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla, asserting that he did not engage in any suspicious financial transactions related to the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) during his tenure as the party’s treasurer.

Musthafa issued this rebuttal in a post on X today. Along with the post, he shared a video of a statement made by Abdul Raheem on September 19, 2024.

"Consider the dire situation we were in. We did not have even half a rufiyaa to our name, nor any means of securing funds. While 500 million rufiyaa remains held in a specific account, Mohamed Ismail just highlighted the activities funded by the state's statutory allocations to the party. The most accurate details regarding this matter would be known to the former Chief of Staff, Musthafa."

In the video, Abdul Raheem stated.

Responding to Abdul Raheem’s remarks, Musthafa asserted that there are no records of any suspicious transactions during his tenure as the Treasurer of PPM. To illustrate his point, Musthafa highlighted that page six of the Maldives Monetary Authority’s (MMA) Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) details a transfer of MVR 500,000 from PPM’s account to the account of Abdul Raheem’s business partner.

Furthermore, Musthafa stated that he is prepared to disclose further details if required, including information regarding the parties responsible for installing the boat engines and those involved in the vessel launches.

Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the matter.
