The public must speak out against wrongful dismissals: Asif

Adam Asif, a lawyer and member of the People's National Front (PNF), has called on the public to take a stand and protest against the current administration's dismissal of employees from various state-owned enterprises for political reasons.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Asif stated that the current administration's actions are no longer seen merely as governance errors, but rather as increasingly tyrannical and oppressive. He noted that since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is highly educated in the United Kingdom and has spent significant time in Europe, he should understand that laws and regulations must be formulated for the benefit of the people. However, Asif remarked that the current reality shows a vast number of citizens being subjected to job insecurity and intimidation, asserting that remaining silent in such a situation will yield no solutions.
Highlighting a wave of dismissals across the country, Asif stated that 51 employees have been terminated in Fuvahmulah City alone, with 29 of them losing their jobs in a single night. He further noted that numerous individuals have also been dismissed from Addu City, as well as Sh. Foakaidhoo and Komandoo. Asif alleged that those terminated include experienced professionals with over 30 years of service, claiming that the dismissals are being carried out because the individuals do not align with the government's political ideology.
Asif further asserted that this is not an effort to "right-size" companies or reduce expenditures, as the government claims. Instead, he described it as a calculated scheme targeting the upcoming PNC congress, where individuals whose votes are not guaranteed are being purged based on lists submitted by Members of Parliament and constituency presidents. He added that these dismissals are expected to continue until the 15th of this month, after which the government will hire new employees in numbers exceeding those who were terminated.
Asif stated that the only solution to this issue is for the public to come out and voice their concerns through protests. Highlighting the example set by the residents of Foakaidhoo, he noted that if the public raises their voices strongly, the government and local councils will be compelled to remain accountable. He further emphasized that in an administration lacking public support, despite attempts to manipulate social media by unfairly distributing projects and jobs, citizens can only secure their rights by speaking out rather than remaining silent.
