CDF: Border Security Threats Now Affecting Internal Security

Highlighting the importance of strengthening military infrastructure to address border security challenges, the Chief of Defence Force noted that a specialized vessel squadron has already been established to enhance maritime operations.

Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy has stated that numerous activities threatening the security of the Maldives' borders are currently occurring, noting that these threats are also impacting the country's internal security.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony for the vessel gifted to the Maldives by the Australian government, Hilmy stated that numerous activities threatening the security of the country's borders are currently taking place. He further noted that the impact of these threats is also extending to the nation's internal security.
Hilmy stated that significant efforts must be undertaken at both national and international levels to protect the Maldives' territorial waters. In this regard, he highlighted that the Coast Guard bears the primary responsibility for enforcing the law and ensuring safety and security within the country's maritime domain.
Consequently, Hilmy stated that it is essential for the Maldivian military to possess the necessary capabilities to defend the nation's sovereign territory and respond effectively to emerging challenges.
Major General Hilmee stated that a specialized vessel squadron, comparable to those utilized by developed nations for conducting both sub-surface and maritime military operations, has now been established.
Furthermore, Hilmy revealed that the government has decided to procure 20 interceptor crafts specifically for the Maldives' coastal security, aimed at enhancing military capabilities before this year's Victory Day.
