Discussions held on "Bangladesh First" policy and establishing maritime trade routes between Maldives, Bangladesh

Discussions have been held regarding the establishment of maritime trade routes between Bangladesh and the Maldives.

Furthermore, the foreign ministers of both countries discussed cooperation regarding Bangladeshi expatriate workers, tourism, education, and healthcare, as well as the blue economy.

According to a statement released by the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry, the discussions took place during a meeting between Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, and the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Iruthisham Adam, in Male' on Sunday evening.

During the meeting, the two officials exchanged views on facilitating high-level visits between both nations and establishing a direct shipping link to expand bilateral trade and strengthen economic ties. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Dr. Khalilur Rahman reaffirmed his government's "Bangladesh First" foreign policy and emphasized the importance of further enhancing people-to-people connections between the two friendly nations.

The meeting was also attended by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, Dr. Mohammad Nazmul Islam. The proposal to establish a maritime transport link is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime connectivity and expand bilateral trade between the two nations. According to the statement, the establishment of a direct shipping route will facilitate the efficient movement of goods between both countries and pave the way for broader economic cooperation.
