Advisory committee passes to issue Monicon orders against nine suspected criminals

Home Minister's advisory committee has passed to issue Monicon orders against nine individuals.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) said that the committee made the decision to issue Monicon orders against nine individuals on Sunday, adding that it cannot disclose any further information on the matter.

Police had previously revealed that they had requested the Ministry to issue Monicon orders against 16 suspected criminals.

While the anti-terrorism law states that the Home Minister has the sole power to issue Monicon orders, the four-member advisory committee was formed in June 2016.

Days after the committee was formed, then Home Minister Umar Naseer resigned; and tagging of suspected criminals have been halted since.
