Naushad: Current administration has obstructed development of Baarah tourism zone
The MDP President for the Baarah constituency, Naushad, has stated that the development of a tourism zone in Baarah has come to a standstill following the current administration's decision to cancel bids initiated by the previous government. He noted that despite the project being re-tendered, no progress has been made, resulting in significant negative impacts on the island's economy and the future prospects of its youth.

It has emerged that the current administration has obstructed the development of a designated tourism zone in HA. Baarah.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunaama" program, Naushad Ibrahim, the MDP National Congress President for the Baarah constituency, stated that developing tourism in Baarah is a key priority for the island's youth, many of whom are already actively employed within the industry.
He noted that efforts to develop tourism on the island began during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Furthermore, he stated that the project to develop a tourism zone in Baarah had been opened for tender and that the bidding process had already been conducted.
However, Naushad stated that following the change in administration, the initial bid was canceled as the current government decided to proceed according to its own specific preferences. As a result, he noted that the project remains stalled to this day.
At that time, our island council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, opened an opportunity to develop a dedicated tourism zone on the island. The project was tendered, and interested parties had already submitted their bids. However, as soon as the administration changed, they canceled the entire bidding process to pursue the project on their own terms. They have since re-advertised it three or four times, yet they have failed to make any progress. This is a significant setback for the island's youth and the many residents who are in desperate need of employment opportunities.Naushad Ibrahim, the MDP National Congress President for the Baarah constituency.
Naushad stated that every day the tourism zone remains undeveloped represents a significant loss for the island and its residents. He further noted that had the project initiated by the MDP government proceeded as planned, it would have already commenced and the community would be reaping the benefits today.
