Previous Government Had Completed Hope Island Model: Faisal

Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that the government's proposed "Hope Island" project is a comprehensive model originally designed by the previous administration in L. Kalaidhoo to rehabilitate and reintegrate at-risk youth into society. Expressing concern over the project's delay, Naseem highlighted that the initiative was intended to address various social issues and provide vocational training to empower youth with sustainable income-generating skills. Despite the current administration's pledge to launch the project last January, the lack of practical progress has drawn increasing public criticism.

Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that the "Hope Island" project planned by the current administration is a concept for which a comprehensive model had already been developed during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government.

In a post on the social media platform X, Faisal stated that the project is based on a comprehensive conceptual module developed by the previous administration. He further noted that the project was originally planned to be implemented in L. Kalaidhoo, with the involvement of relevant government institutions and numerous technical experts.

Faisal stated that the project aims to rehabilitate marginalized individuals and youth at risk of criminal behavior. It focuses on providing education, vocational training, and the necessary skills to secure productive, income-generating opportunities, ultimately empowering them to become self-sufficient.

Faisal stated that the project is designed to address numerous prevailing social issues, adding that the implementation of such an initiative is already long overdue.

Former Minister Fayyaz Ismail stated that Hanimaadhoo International Airport has been developed to accommodate A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft, enabling direct flights from major global destinations. He dismissed the government's claims that the airport cannot handle large aircraft as an obstacle to the development of the north, further noting that investing in wide-body aircraft infrastructure without current demand is economically unsound. Developed with Indian assistance during the MDP administration, the airport is designed to serve 1.3 million passengers annually.
