Special book on Maldives-India defense relations launched

India-Maldives Relations: "Sailing the Mahasagar Together" | CPPR India
A book titled "Sailing the Mahasagar Together" has been released, highlighting the strengthening defense ties between the Maldives and India under India's "Vision SAGAR" policy.
In this regard, a chapter titled "India-Maldives Defense Partnership within the Framework of Vision SAGAR," authored by Dr. Gulbin Sultana, Associate Fellow at the Manohar Parrikar IDSA, has been published in the book "Sailing the Mahasagar Together: India-Maldives Relations."
Jointly published by the Centre for Public Policy Research and the Indian Council of World Affairs, the book features 10 chapters authored by experts from both nations, exploring various dimensions of the bilateral relationship between the Maldives and India.
The book highlights the strategic significance of the bilateral defense relationship under India’s "SAGAR" (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision. In the chapter authored by Dr. Gulbin, the evolution of security cooperation between the two nations is analyzed through lenses such as maritime surveillance, joint military exercises, capacity building, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Furthermore, the chapter underscores the Maldives' role as a pivotal partner in maintaining stability within the Indian Ocean region.
The book launch ceremony, held in New Delhi, India, was attended by diplomats, strategic analysts, and academics from both nations. These experts engaged in discussions regarding the trajectory of bilateral relations within the context of an evolving global political landscape. The contributors to the book highlighted that despite occasional political shifts, the security and economic interests of India and the Maldives remain deeply interconnected.
This book is part of a comprehensive effort to research and document the 60-year history of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Reports indicate that the publication will serve as a definitive resource, providing valuable insights for both policymakers and researchers.
