Two individuals arrested for aiding an inmate's escape, remanded in custody for 15 days
The Criminal Court has remanded two men in custody for 15 days on charges of aiding the escape of an individual under the care of the Family and Gender Affairs Department. During the hearing, police presented CCTV footage and other evidence linking 22-year-old Ahmed Uwais and 25-year-old Mohamed Anoof to the crime.

The Criminal Court has ordered the 15-day remand of two individuals accused of aiding the escape of a suspect held in connection with an ongoing investigation by the Family and Gender Affairs Department.
The individuals arrested in connection with this case have been identified as Ahmed Uwais, 22, of H. Laamiya, and Mohamed Anoof, 25, of Ihaaz, N. Velidhoo. Both suspects were produced before the court on Wednesday for a hearing to determine their remand status.
According to the detention order, the individual who assisted in their escape is a suspect currently in custody for a case being investigated by the Family and Gender Affairs Department.
The Criminal Court stated that sufficient evidence has been obtained to support the allegations against both individuals. The court further noted that CCTV footage has also been secured as evidence in connection with the case.
The court order further revealed that of the two individuals arrested in connection with the case, Uwais has a prior criminal record. The court noted that the involvement of an individual with a criminal history in such an offense is a key factor taken into consideration when issuing a remand order.
Assisting in the escape of an individual detained in connection with an investigation by the Family and Gender Affairs Department is a grave offense. Such actions are considered an obstruction of police duties and an unlawful attempt to release a person from legal custody.
Two individuals have been remanded in custody for 15 days in connection with this case. The police are currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the matter. It is expected that the state will file formal charges against both suspects upon the conclusion of the investigation, provided sufficient evidence is obtained.
