Mary Grace's murder

Lamha found guilty of involvement in Mary’s murder, driven by a desperate resolve to be with Marvin at any cost

The Criminal Court has found Marvin S.Y. Vargas guilty of the murder of his wife, Mary Grace, a nurse at IGMH. Although attempts were made to stage her death as a suicide by hanging, the presiding judge ruled that extensive evidence proved she died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck. The court will next convene for a hearing to determine the sentencing for the conviction.

Haleemath Lamha Abdul Rahman has been found guilty in connection with the death of Mary Grace, a nurse who was employed at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

In the case involving the death of Mary Grace, the presiding judge has found her husband, Marvin, guilty of aiding and abetting intentional homicide. Having recently converted to Islam, he now goes by the name Yusuf.

In this case, Lamha has been charged with being an accessory to a premeditated murder, along with an additional charge of unauthorized exercise of control over another person's property. Furthermore, she faces charges for performing a restricted activity without the required authorization. During a court-ordered search of her residence, authorities discovered several medications inside her room that are strictly designated for use only within hospitals and medical facilities.

Furthermore, authorities discovered several injections in his possession that had been removed from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) without authorization. These medications are strictly prohibited from being taken off-site and are designated for hospital use only.

Presiding Criminal Court Judge Muzammil Nasir stated that disputes arose between Lamha and Mary after Mary discovered the romantic relationship between Marvin and Lamha, noting that Lamha had also issued threats against Mary. The judge further noted that Lamha assisted in the murder by taking Marvin’s child out of the house while the act was being committed. Additionally, the judge stated that Lamha went to the residence following the killing to provide further assistance to Marvin.

The presiding judge ruled that Mary Grace was indeed murdered. The judge noted that at the time of the killing, the only individuals present at the scene besides Marvin and Lamha was a four-year-old child. Consequently, based on the circumstantial evidence, the judge concluded it was proven that Marvin murdered Mary, driven by his extramarital affair with Lamha. The judge further highlighted that while the pair were planning to marry, they had discussed the specific documentation required in the event of a spouse's death. The judge remarked that there was no legitimate reason to make such plans based on the assumption of a living person's demise.

Furthermore, the judge stated that evidence indicates Marvin only contacted emergency services after Lamha had left the residence. The judge further noted that it was evident both individuals had actively attempted to conceal the truth surrounding Mary’s death.

Regarding Lamha’s involvement in Mary’s murder, the presiding judge noted that Mary’s toxicology report confirmed the presence of Succinylcholine in her blood. Witness testimony established that this was the same substance found in a syringe discovered at Lamha’s residence. Furthermore, the judge highlighted that Lamha failed to provide any plausible justification for possessing the vial at her home.

The judge stated that, based on the surrounding circumstances of the case, the evidence presented to the court demonstrates that Lamha was determined to find a way to be with Marvin at any cost.

Referencing the evidence in this case, the prosecution stated that Lamha had sent messages to Marvin discussing how to inject a woman with a syringe. Following this, Marvin reportedly conducted Google searches on how to kill someone in such a manner. The prosecution further noted that shortly thereafter, their child was handed over to Lamha, and the act of murdering Mary was carried out. Additionally, the state highlighted that several syringes discovered at Lamha’s residence were found to have been used.

Police began investigating Mary Grace's death as suspicious after she was brought to the hospital with claims that she had committed suicide by hanging, despite her body showing no physical signs consistent with such an act. To determine the exact cause of death, authorities sent her body to India for a forensic post-mortem examination.

According to the post-mortem report, Mary’s death was caused by injuries sustained to her head and neck.
