DNA of Thahumeen and Haisham, charged in connection with the May 6 attack, found on fragments of detonated bomb: Witness
An expert witness testifying from Hungary has confirmed to the court that DNA belonging to defendants Thahumeen Ali and Ali Haisham was discovered on bomb fragments related to the May 6 terror attack. As the trial continues, the Prosecutor General’s Office has instructed the police to expedite the investigation into the individuals who funded the attack and to submit the findings as soon as possible.

The Criminal Court has conducted a hearing regarding the May 6, 2021, attack targeting former President Mohamed Nasheed.
As the trials for those charged in connection with the attack targeting Nasheed continue at the Criminal Court, the most recent hearing was held on Sunday. The case is currently at the stage of recording testimony from prosecution witnesses.
During this hearing, testimony was obtained from the expert who prepared the DNA report for the case. According to the witness, DNA belonging to the defendants, Thahumeen Ahmed and Ali Haisham, was identified on fragments of the explosive device used in the attack.
He provided his testimony while residing in Hungary.
As several years have passed since the incident, the Prosecutor General’s Office has recently instructed the police to expedite the investigation into the financiers of the attack and submit the case for prosecution as soon as possible. The PG Office stated that it advised the police on April 8 to accelerate the investigation into those who funded this act of terrorism and to present their findings to the office at the earliest opportunity.
