Ashfan, who served as the Deputy Controller of Immigration, appointed as a Deputy Minister at Youth Ministry
Ashfan, a prominent former national football player who served Maldives Immigration for over 18 years, has been removed from his post amidst a series of government administrative changes. Following his departure, the institution issued a farewell message honoring his long-standing service. This move comes as the administration reshuffles various political appointments in the wake of recent election results.

Ahmed Ashfan, who served as the Deputy Controller of Immigration, has been transferred to the position of Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness.
Following Ashpan's transfer to the new position on Thursday, Maldives Immigration shared a post on X expressing appreciation for his dedicated service. The institution also extended its best wishes for his future success.
Ashfan was appointed to the position of Deputy Controller of Immigration on April 4, 2024. He has served the agency as an immigration officer for more than 18 years.
Ashfan was a prominent figure in Maldivian football, having represented the national team during his career. He was the elder brother of national team captain Ali Ashfaq (Dhagandey).
Ashfan’s sudden transfer to the Youth Ministry comes at a time when the government is dismissing officials from state-owned enterprises and requesting others to resign. These changes follow the government’s significant defeat in the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections, as well as the referendum held on April 4th.
