President Muizzu has already set a record for failing to achieve any results within his first two years in office: MP Ziyad
Despite President Muizzu’s pledges to reduce government expenditure and cut political appointees, MP Ziyad criticized the administration for setting new records in unnecessary spending and excessive hiring within state-owned enterprises. He further noted that while millions are being squandered on fireworks and travel during a severe economic downturn, the public has seen no tangible improvement in their standard of living.

Vaikaradhoo MP Hussain Ziyad has criticized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, stating that while the President is eager to set records, he has already established one for being the most unproductive leader within a two-year period.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "TV Talk" program, MP Ziyad stated that President Muizzu assumed office on a pledge to reduce the number of political appointees and a guarantee to cut government expenditure. However, the lawmaker noted that the President has instead set a new record for hiring employees into state-owned enterprises during this administration.
MP Ziyad stated that millions of rufiyaa have been squandered on a wasteful fireworks display under the guise of cost-cutting measures. He further noted that while the historic fireworks show held last night to mark the opening of the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) may have secured a place in the world record books, it brought no tangible progress or relief to the lives of the citizens.
Noting that President Muizzu appears to have a strong interest in setting records, MP Ziyad remarked that the President has already secured records for the highest frequency of foreign trips and visits to the presidential retreat, Aarah. Ziyad further asserted that the President now holds the record for failing to achieve any significant progress during the first two years of his administration. The MP added that if no development projects are underway by the end of the term, the President will also hold the record for a complete lack of developmental activity.
President Muizzu is deeply fascinated by setting records, and indeed, he has achieved many. If he concludes his term in this manner, he will undoubtedly secure one major record: becoming the president who served the longest duration without accomplishing anything. Even now, he holds the record for failing to achieve any results despite being two years into his term. That is a record in itself, and those who wish to acknowledge it should do so. There are numerous such records. He holds the record for hiring the highest number of employees, which is ironic given that his administration came to power promising to reduce the workforce. There is also a record for spending. Furthermore, he holds the record for hosting the most ceremonies. Despite claiming there is no money in the budget, a ceremony was held costing approximately 30 to 40 million Rufiyaa, complete with fireworks, just to announce the lack of funds. He informed the public that the budget was empty and that the country was left in debt by the MDP government. To convey this message, they organized a massive, lavish event.Hussain Ziyad, Member of Parliament for the Vaikaradhoo constituency.
Furthermore, MP Ziyad criticized the presidential address delivered by President Muizzu earlier this year.
MP Ziyad noted that while the length of the speech set a record, neither the public nor the nation stands to benefit from a Presidential Address based solely on its duration. He further remarked that the Presidential Address was previously held in high regard and looked upon with great anticipation by the Maldivian people.
