Leader of the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC)’s Parliamentary Group and MP for Inguraidhoo constituency Ibrahim Falah has asserted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government does not consider race, lineage, or social status when making appointments to official posts.

His remarks came during Wednesday’s sitting of the People’s Majlis, where he delivered an extensive statement praising Ahmed Mahloof, the ambassador designated by the Maldives to Japan.

Falah insisted that the nominee submitted to the Majlis for the ambassadorial post in Japan is the most suitable and best individual the Maldives could put forward for the role.

He argued that there was nothing further to debate and described the appointment as an excellent decision. Repeating his point, Falah maintained that this administration does not factor in race, lineage, or social standing when making such decisions, and instead evaluates an individual’s competence, skills, and experience in serving the nation.

He further expressed confidence that, with the government’s choice, the relationship between the Maldives and Japan will improve significantly in the future, rising to a higher level than the current state of bilateral relations.

However, despite Falah’s claims, many are suggesting that Mahloof’s appointment is linked to his planned signing with the ruling PNC on 14 November 2025.

Families critical of the government have also alleged that the administration uses job insecurity as a threat, offering positions to exert control over households that criticize the government.

Additional accusations claim that employees who express dissent while in service face severe repercussions, including dismissals, transfers and other forms of harassment.
