A violent stabbing incident occurred in Hithadhoo district of southernmost Addu City late Tuesday night, leaving a 34-year-old Maldivian man seriously injured and currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the report of the attack was received at approximately 1:17am. The victim sustained stab wounds in two areas of his body after being assaulted with a sharp object. He was immediately taken to Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH), where he underwent surgery.

While his condition is reported to be stable and not immediately life-threatening, the victim remains in intensive care under close medical supervision.

Authorities have cordoned off the area where the incident took place, though no further details regarding the circumstances of the attack or possible suspects have been made public at this time.

Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Addu City has witnessed previous incidents of violent crime, some of which have resulted in fatalities, raising concerns about public safety in the region.
