A youth arrested with a large quantity of drugs and cash during an operation in the capital Malé City has been remanded for 15 days.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) said that based on intelligence information about a person possessing and selling drugs, a joint operation was conducted by Police Intelligence and Drug Enforcement on August 27.
A suspect was arrested under a court warrant a part of the joint operation.
The arrested individual has been identified as Haroon Jailam, 23, native to Hinnavaru island of Lhaviyani atoll.
As part of the operation, two motorcycles and an apartment were searched. The search uncovered over a kilogram of drugs and more than MVR 100,000 in cash. Police revealed that the two motorcycles searched in connection with the case have since been towed.
In addition to this, the police institution revealed that when the suspect was presented to court for a remand hearing, he was ordered to be held in custody for 15 days.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case, at the Drug Enforcement Department (DED).
