President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu returned to Malé on Thursday after completing an extensive tour of Baa Atoll, where he visited all 13 inhabited islands of the southern part of the atoll, also known as South Maalhosmadulu.

As part of the tour, the president visited the islands of Kamadhoo, Kudarikilu, Kendhoo, Eydhafushi, Thulhaadhoo, Goidhoo, Fehendhoo, Fulhadhoo, Hithaadhoo, Kihaadhoo, Dhonfanu, Dharavandhoo, and Maalhos.

During each stop, President Muizzu met with Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), and local communities to discuss the developmental needs, challenges, and current conditions facing their communities.

Accompanying the president on the tour was a high-level delegation including several cabinet ministers and heads of state-owned enterprises. The delegation shared updates on ongoing and planned projects for each island, aiming to address key infrastructure, social, and economic concerns raised by the local communities.

As part of the tour, several key development initiatives were launched across the region’s inhabited islands.

ATM services from the Bank of Maldives (BML) were officially introduced in all 13 inhabited islands of the atoll, marking a significant step toward improving banking accessibility for residents.

The president also inaugurated the construction of new police stations in Maalhos, Fehendhoo, Thulhaadhoo, and Goidhoo, reinforcing the government's commitment to strengthening public safety infrastructure in outer islands.

In addition to this, President Muizzu announced the transfer of two uninhabited islands, Maamaduvvari to Hithaadhoo and Innafushi to Fulhadhoo, as part of efforts to enhance island-level development and resource management.

Plans to begin land reclamation work for the proposed Thulhaadhoo Airport were also revealed, alongside a commitment to upgrade Dharavandhoo Airport to improve regional connectivity.

The trip further included the signing of several agreements for new development projects across various sectors, with updated schedules shared for initiatives planned for 2025 and beyond.

In his speeches during the meetings held on this tour, the president reiterated his policy of establishing a truly decentralized system and empowering the people.
