Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Asif has been dismissed from his position after being on suspension for eight months.
According to a reliable source, he was removed from the position during the past week.
It has been revealed that Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Asif was suspended in connection with an embezzlement case.
As such, employees filed a complaint alleging that Asif, as the President of the Prisons Club and Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, had used over MVR 100,000 from the club for personal purposes.
Corrections stated that he was dismissed after investigating the necessary matters.
The case surfaced in July 2024. Asif is accused of withdrawing more than MVR 200,000 from the Prisons Club account. It is alleged that he deposited this money into several accounts.
The corrections department has also investigated the matter. The petition sent by the employees requested the recovery of the money allegedly taken by Asif and for disciplinary action to be taken against him.
While Asif was suspended since November 2024, he was instructed not to enter any building of the institution without HR permission.
Asif was appointed to the position of ACP in September 2019.
