Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced an exclusive discount for transactions made using its popular BML Student Debit Card at POS terminals.

The country’s national bank revealed that cardholders can enjoy discounts of up to 10 percent at a wide range of shops, restaurants, and bookstores when using the BML Student Debit Card for payments. A full list of participating outlets is available at: https://offers.merchants.bankofmaldives.com.mv/.

The BML Student Card is designed to help children develop responsible spending habits and build financial independence from an early age. By allocating a set monthly budget for everyday expenses, the card encourages practical lessons in budgeting, responsible spending, and economic decision-making.

The Student Card is available in two tailored versions: one for students aged seven to 12, and another for those aged 13 to 18, ensuring age-appropriate financial tools for each group.

An annual rebate has been introduced for transactions made using the Student Card, with the bank crediting 0.5 percent of the total yearly spending directly into each child’s savings account.

Parents can transfer funds to the Student Card account, offer guidance on spending, and monitor how the card is used, providing children with a valuable learning opportunity under full parental supervision. In addition to this, features such as freezing or unfreezing the card, blocking it, and changing the PIN are conveniently accessible to parents through the BML app.

This Visa Debit Card is issued free of charge and can be used for transactions both locally and internationally. A standard monthly limit of USD 100 applies to foreign transactions. However, for students living abroad, this limit is extended to USD 1,200 per month upon registration and submission of the required documentation.
