Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, who was temporarily in charge of running the institution, has been appointed to the position of Commissioner of Police.

The position of Police Commissioner became vacant after Ali Shujau, who held the position, resigned abruptly on April 26. In addition to Naveen, Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry and South Police Commander Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shameem applied for the position.

After Shujau's resignation, Farhad Fikry was first appointed as Acting Commissioner. However, an hour later, the decision was reversed and Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen was appointed to the position.

When the current administration initially opened the opportunity for Police Commissioner, it was Shujau and Naveen who competed for the position.
