As part of the efforts being made by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) against narcotics, five individuals have been arrested with narcotics in an operation conducted in Maamigili island of Alif Dhaal atoll.
The joint operation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and police officers stationed in Alif Dhaal Atoll in collaboration with the Police Intelligence unit.
The operation was conducted on June 2.
Arrested in the operation were Riswan Ibrahim, 30 and native to Maamigili island of Alif Dhaal atoll; Ahmed Firshan, 28 and native to Maamigili island of Alif Dhaal atoll; Mohamed Shahudh, 27 and native to Maamigili island of Alif Dhaal atoll; Mohamed Mahmood, 34 and native to Maamigili island of Alif Dhaal atoll; and Ali Shaneez, 39 and native to Maamigili island of Alif Dhaal atoll.
During the police operation which saw the arrest of five suspects linked to drugs, seven locations linked to them were searched as well.
During the raid, 9.68 grams of drugs were confiscated.
Upon being presented to the court for their remand hearing, Riswan and Mahmood were given 15 days in remand. Further, Firshan, Shahudh and Shaneez were remanded for five days.
Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case, at the Maamigili Police Station.
