Man arrested in drug operation remanded

The man who was arrested during a drug operation in Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll has been remanded.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the man arrested in connection with the case is Jazlaan Ali, 28, native to Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll.

The suspect was taken into police custody after an operation that was conducted jointly by the Police Intelligence unit and Villingili Police based on information received by the intelligence unit that he was trafficking and in possession of drugs.

The joint operation was conducted on May 28.

As part of the operation, officers attempted to stop the suspect on the streets, collected and examined items he tosses when he spotted the officers. The officers found two rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics.

The provisional weight of these substances was six grams.

Further, the police institution revealed that the suspect was brought before the court for his remand hearing, and the court ordered for him to be remanded for five days.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
