Ex-Pres. Waheed appointed as Special Envoy of the president

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan as the Special Envoy of the President.

The President's Office stated that Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan of Ma. Yureeka was appointed to the position of Special Envoy of the President on Monday morning. The ceremony was held on Monday morning at the President's Office. After appointing him as the Special Envoy of the President, Muizzu also sat down for talks with the former president.

The President's Office has appointed Waheed to this position without a salary.

Waheed previously served as the President of the Maldives as well as the Vice President. In addition to being a member of the People's Majlis and the Special Majlis, Waheed has held senior positions in the education sector and has also served in senior positions at UNICEF.

During the meeting, Muizzu stated that Waheed is a very capable person. He requested him to work with the government to strengthen the country's foreign relations and shed light on the significance of consulting with countries to facilitate economically beneficial matters. Further, the president also requested him to work towards achieving success in this regard. In addition to this, he assured that the president would provide full support in carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
