The Secretary General of the Broadcasting Commission of Maldives, Broadcom, Mariyam Zeeniya, who was suspended abruptly, has been dismissed from her position.

Zeeniya was suspended for a period of three days on May 20. While a reliable source has informed RaajjeMV about Zeeniya's dismissal, her suspension was done in a highly questionable manner without any warning.

Regarding the matter of her suspension, Zeeniya had previously told RaajjeMV that during a meeting held by the commission members on the morning of May 20, they had mentioned that there were some ethical issues concerning her. She was abruptly instructed to respond to this. She also stated that no questions were asked regarding the ethical issue concerning her.

RaajjeMV's attempts to question Broadcom's President Safa Shafeeq and Zeeniya about the matter of the latter’s dismissal have not been successful.

However, Broadcom members have told some media outlets that Zeeniya was suspended because she was not fulfilling her responsibilities at Broadcom and was acting in a way that obstructed the work of the members.

While such an issue has surfaced, a petition has been submitted to the People's Majlis regarding the recurring challenges faced by the employees of Broadcom in fulfilling their job responsibilities.

The petition, addressed to Speaker of the People's Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla, sheds light on several issues.

The petition notes that the President of the Commission and some Commission members are obstructing the duties and responsibilities of the Secretary General and Directors of Broadcom in all administrative matters without any limits or boundaries, disrespecting the administrative structure.

With the submission of the petition, staff members of Broadcom who previously spoke to RaajjeMV have said that employees are being further intimidated. In addition to this, Broadcom's IT officer Fazeel has also been suspended.
