‘Midnight’ meetings between members of the executive and judiciary while a case involving the prior is in being overseen is usually typical of tyrannical societies, said lawyer Husnu Suood.

The prominent lawyer said this in a tweet on Saturday, referring to Attorney General Mohamed Anil having been seen leaving the Supreme Court at midnight.

“It is an ordinary thing in tyrannical societies for ministers and judges to meet at midnight while a case concerning the conduct of the government is being overseen” the tweet Suood sent out in Dhivehi said.

The Supreme Court is currently presiding over a case where four parliamentarians aligned with the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) had lost their seats. It is now to hold the sentencing hearing in this case.

There have also been reports that the government has stopped provided security services to some judges.
