Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has acknowledged delays in the implementation of development projects, admitting there has been “slowness” in their progress during his remarks at Monday’s sitting of the People’s Majlis.

Muththalib said that the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) also faces difficulties in obtaining materials for advancing their work.

The minister's remarks highlighted that there are delays in paying contractors as well.

The minister stated that the housing project planned for Fuvahmulah City has been delayed due to the contractor not receiving the required advance payment.

The housing project set to be built in Fuvahmulah has not progressed at all after signing because the advance payment to the contractor was delayed,"

After noting the delay in giving the advance payment, Minister Muththalib said that the government has now given "part of the advance payment".

The minister stated that road works in Fuvahmulah City are progressing slowly, as the MTCC is struggling to manage a large number of ongoing projects and is facing challenges in procuring necessary materials.

“There is slowness,” the minister remarked while addressing the slow progress of the road construction project.

As the current administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu approaches a year and a half, many people continue to note that adequate work is not being done for the country's development.
