MVR 500,000 from Zakat al-Fitr funds allocated to support Gaza’s children

The government has decided to donate MVR 500,000 from this year's Zakat al-Fitr funds to the bereaved children in Gaza, Palestine.
RaajjeMV understands that a total of 2,765 are registered as poor in the Maldives.
MVR 12.4 million was distributed as Zakat al-Fitr this year.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed revealed that MVR 4,500 was deposited for individuals registered as poor, for the year 1446.
Further, he revealed that it has been decided to donate MVR 500,000 for food for children in Gaza, Palestine. Minister Shaheem also said that 15 kilograms of rice have been given to each person registered as poor, in the congested capital, Malé City region.
Highlighting that this year saw the highest amount of money received as Zakat al-Fitr, Minister Shaheem said that 2025 is the year when the most money was deposited equally to the registered poor.
According to statistics published by the Islamic Ministry, a total of MVR 13,264,819 was received as Zakat al-Fitr in cash this year. In 2024, MVR 12,594,777.92 was received. While MVR 12,691,506.08 was received in 2023, MVR 11,669,385.10 was received in 2022.
