The construction of new buildings for healthcare facilities across ten islands has been awarded to government-owned companies.

The agreements for the projects were signed at a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Health on Friday night. As such, the construction of five health centers and five hospitals has been awarded.

Companies have been tasked with building health centers in Kudarikilu island of Baa atoll, Kondey island of Gaaf Alif atoll, Nadella island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll, Nellaidhoo island of Haa Dhaal atoll and Fenfushi island of Alif Dhaal atoll, and hospitals in Milandhoo island of Shaviyani atoll, Thulusdhoo island of Kaafu atoll, Rasdhoo island of Alif Alif atoll, Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll and Velidhoo island of Noonu atoll.

The Ministry of Health revealed that the construction of new buildings for healthcare facilities in two islands was awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC), and the agreement for the initiative has been signed.

The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Health Ismail Abdulla on behalf of the ministry, and by Managing Director Brigadier General (Rtd.) Ali Zuhair on behalf of RDC.

The work for the new building of N. Velidhoo Hospital was awarded for MVR 108,322,537.03 to be completed within 540 days. Further, the work for the new building of ADh. Fenfushi Health Center was awarded for MVR 26,839,684.82 to be completed within 540 days.

In addition to this, the health ministry noted that state utilities company Fenaka Corporation Limited has been awarded the construction of new buildings for healthcare facilities across three islands, and agreements have been signed.

The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Health Ismail Abdulla on behalf of the ministry, and by Managing Director Major (Rtd.) Mohamed Najah on behalf of Fenaka.

The work on the new building of B. Kudarikilu Health Center was awarded for MVR 7,641,116.64 to be completed within 365 days. The work on the new building of GA. Kondey Health Center was awarded for MVR 6,763,307.54 to be completed within 300 days. In addition to this, the work on the new building of GDh. Nadella Health Center was awarded for MVR 6,757,395.89 to be completed within 300 days.

The ministry revealed that the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was tasked with constructing healthcare facilities across five islands, with the agreements signed for the projects.

The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Health Ahmed Gasim on behalf of the ministry, and by Managing Director, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rtd.) Ahmed Saudi on behalf of MTCC.

The work for the new building of HDh. Nellaidhoo Health Center was awarded for MVR 11,197,462.90 to be completed within 450 days. The work for the new building of Sh. Milandhoo Hospital was awarded for MVR 110,878,732.12 to be completed within 600 days. The work for the new building of K. Thulusdhoo Hospital has been awarded for MVR 110,716,537.72 to be completed within 600 days. The work for the new building of AA. Rasdhoo Hospital was awarded for MVR 185,571,402.42 to be completed within 780 days. Further, the work for the construction of GA. Villingili Hospital was awarded for MVR 185,571,402.42 to be completed within 780 days.

Highlighting that the island nation’s health system can be strengthened by physically strengthening the health sector, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim revealed that when these works are completed, there will be a positive change for the health system of the Maldives, and especially for the people of the islands where these projects are being carried out,
