Amidst intensifying criticism and growing concerns regarding the quality of services at the Thalassemia Center, some senior officials of the center have been dismissed from their positions.

Dismissed from their positions were Director of the Thalassemia Center Ahsan Hussain and Public Health Coordinator of the Blood Bank Faisal Ibrahim.

RaajjeMV understands that the two officials were dismissed on Monday. However, relevant authorities are yet to officially announce their dismissal.

On Saturday night, the public raised their voices and protested when an issue surfaced with the filters at the Maldives Blood Service, resulting in a significant problem of having to discard the blood of donors.

After that, on Sunday afternoon, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the Thalassemia Center, stating it was to assess the situation of the center. Following the visit, he stated that he was unaware of the center's condition.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, some thalassemia patients stressed that even though President Muizzu visited the Thalassemia Center during the day in Ramadan, he would not be aware of the actual situation. They explained that during the daytime in Ramadan, only children under 12 years old receive blood transfusions. All adults receive their transfusions at night, and the patients said that young children wouldn't be able to explain the concerns.

The patients also stated that meeting with the current management of the National Thalassemia Center would not resolve the issues, and that the situation had deteriorated to this extent due to the negligence of the management.
