It has been announced that a civil lawsuit will be filed against Mariyam “Mandhy” Zubair, the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and its Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail for allegedly defaming the children of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

This was revealed at a press conference held at Dhimyaath on Saturday. At the press conference held on Saturday, the press statement issued on behalf of First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, was shared with the media by legal counsel Azima Shakoor.

In Sajidha's statement, she has said that she has been the target of multiple political criticisms before. However, she has not taken any action or commented on political criticisms. But the statement says that she has decided to take action against recent political activities where speeches are being made that defame her children under 18 years of age. The statement further says that these measures are being taken personally and that there is no government involvement in it.

Under the supervision of Ibrahim Khaleel, the Communication Minister of the President's Office, at this press conference held at Dhimyaath, Sajida's legal counsel Azima said that there have been incidents that put the president’s children at risk. However, Azima said that Sajidha does not intend to file a criminal lawsuit.

However, Azima said that it has been decided to take civil measures regarding this matter. Azima also said that by this point, things have happened that interfere with the children's education and safety. Azima said that this is considered a loss of children's safety from a legal perspective.

Azima also said that while they are currently filing lawsuits against Fayyaz, MDP, and Mariyam Zubair, she cannot say that they won't file lawsuits against others. And she said that after investigating the matter, if lawsuits need to be filed against additional parties, they will do so.

Although Azima, the counsel on behalf of Sajidha, said that they have decided to file lawsuits against some people, when journalists asked what specific illegal actions the accused parties have committed, Azima did not specify.
