Although President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu claimed that WAMCO would begin waste collection services in Dhidhdhoo island of Haa Alif atoll before the ongoing fasting month of Ramadan, it has come to light that the island’s council is still providing waste collection services as the fasting month approaches the end of its first week.

President Muizzu has been announcing the commencing dates for projects during several of his visits to islands. However, many people have been noting that things are not proceeding as he claims.

During his visit to Dhidhdhoo in late January, meeting with the island's residents, President Muizzu assured that WAMCO services would begin in the island before the end of February, stating that all preparations had been completed.

I have instructed WAMCO's Managing Director and the Finance Minister regarding the commencement of WAMCO services in Dhidhdhoo, to complete all necessary arrangements, both financial and operational, to ensure WAMCO services begin fully in this island before Ramadan"

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The president further told Dhidhdhoo residents that both officials had given their assurance on the matter. This was met with applause from those present at the gathering.

So you see, there's very little time left, isn't it? They're saying WAMCO services will begin by Ramadan, perhaps even earlier. I expect it to begin by the end of February at the latest"

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

However, WAMCO services haven't commenced as President Muizzu promised. Accordingly, the council has announced waste collection schedules for Ramadan.

During his tour of some islands of Haa Alif atoll in late January, including Dhidhdhoo, Muizzu also responded to opposition claims that his government makes promises without proper planning.

Speaking to residents of Muraidhoo island of Haa Alif atoll, the president said that he “always” works by understanding matters directly from the people, prioritizing what needs to be prioritized, and bringing solutions to the difficulties faced by the people.
