More than MVR 1.3 million was exhausted during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent trip to Estonia.
While more than a million MVR was spent on President Muizzu's trip, the President's Office stated that this was a trip made at the invitation of Estonia’s President Alar Karis.
He visited the country from January 13 to January 17.
The purpose of the trip was to strengthen relations and exchange knowledge between the governments of Maldives and Estonia, and to seek further opportunities in the areas of digital innovation, cybersecurity, e-governance, climate change, health and education sectors, tourism, renewable energy and smart grids, security, history, and sustainable technology.
The President's Office said that the Maldivian government spent a total of MVR 1,371,069.18 on the president’s Estonia trip.
A significant government delegation also accompanied President Muizzu on the trip.
The President's Office said that during the trip, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to initiate political consultations between the two countries.
The President's Office has not yet disclosed any information about any beneficial outcomes for the Maldives that have been initiated in connection with this trip.
