Former parliamentarian for Central Henveiru Constituency, Ali Azim, has left ‘The Democrats’.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Azim confirmed that he has resigned from ‘The Democrats’.
His resignation has been effective from Saturday.
Azim noted that he would sign for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Azim has resigned from The Democrats and decided to join the main opposition party at a time he had previously worked very prominently in MDP.
Azim, who served as the MP for Central Henveiru Constituency in the 19th People’s Majlis assembly, had also served as the Parliamentary Group (PG) Leader of MDP during that term. However, amidst the rift that tore MDP into two factions, Azim signed for The Democrats.
Azim’s resignation from The Democrats and decision to join MDP comes at a time several senior figures of The Democrats have been resigning.
While Hassan Latheef has resigned from the presidency of the party, Mohamed Shifaz has also resigned from the vice presidency.
In addition to this, Hussein Amru, who was the running mate of The Democrats' candidate Ilyas Labeeb in the 2023 Presidential Election, has also left the party and signed for the main opposition party.
