State earned MVR 249m from import-export in November

Statistics publicized by the Maldives Customs Service have shown that the state earned MVR 249 million from import and export activities in November 2024,

According to statistics released by Maldives Customs Service, imports remained at the same level this year as well as last year, excluding expenditure on fuel.

As such, both in November of last year and November of this year, goods worth MVR 3.4 billion were imported. However, including fuel expenditure, a total of MVR 4.3 billion worth of goods were imported into the country in November 2023.

In November 2024, goods worth MVR four billion were imported into the country. The items most imported to the Maldives in November were machinery and electrical equipment, petroleum products, and food items. The countries from which the most goods were imported were UAE, China, India, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Of these, goods worth MVR 103 million were imported from the middle-east, while the value of goods imported from China amounted to MVR 608 million. India imported goods worth MVR 582 million to the Maldives, while the value of goods imported from Singapore amounted to MVR 253 million, according to the statistics.

While imports in November remained at the same level compared to 2023, expenditure on food, fuel, and electronic equipment and machinery amounted to MVR 500 million. The import value of food items stood at MVR 883 million.

The import value of machinery and electronic equipment stood at MVR 717 million, while MVR 582 million was spent on fuel last November. According to Customs statistics, the amount of goods exported from the Maldives has decreased. As such, MVR 216 million worth of fish was exported from the Maldives in November of last year. However, exports stood at MVR 120 million during this period this year.

According to the statistics, MVR 249 million was received from import-export in November. During this period last year, MVR 429 million was received from import and export activities.
