Superintendent of Police Rajunee Shuaib, Head of the Economic Crime Department of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has been removed from his duties.

Officer Rajunee was removed from his duties on Saturday.

He was relieved of his responsibilities following the circulation of information on social media suggesting he allegedly obtained a Vinares flat through irregular means.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’ on Saturday night, police spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said that Rajunee has been temporarily relieved of his duties.

Shifan informed that Superintendent of Police Rajunee Shuaib, who was working as the Head of Economic Crime Investigation at MPS, has been temporarily relieved of his duties and they have been assigned to another officer.

Shifan also highlighted that the decision was made to maintain the credibility of the ongoing investigation into the ‘Binveriyaa’ and ‘Gedhoruveriyaa’ schemes by the Economic Crime Investigations department and to ensure that the investigation is not negatively affected in any way.

The police spokesperson added that the decision is not based on any wrongdoing by SP Rajunee Shuaib that has been identified so far in the matters being verified by the police institution regarding him.

Rajunee participated in a press conference held by the police on Thursday night to provide information about the investigation into the case of illegally allocating land in Hulhumalé.

There have been widespread reports of flats being unfairly allocated to various parties in the Vinares flat distribution, with some allegedly receiving flats after paying bribes. It is also reported that some parties obtained flats by submitting fake documents, including fake payment slips without actually making payments.
