Deputy Managing Director of Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, elder brother of Housing Development Corporation (HDC)'s Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, has been suspended from his position.
He has been suspended at a time an investigation has been launched into concerns raised about theft from public housing and fraudulently giving away plots of land in Hulhumalé through HDC.
MWSC said Fazeel was suspended to give space and fully cooperate with the investigation being conducted by Maldives Police Services (MPS) regarding HDC. As such, from Thursday, Fazeel has been suspended from all responsibilities and barred from coming to the office.
Following the surfacing of the issue of illegally giving away plots under the ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme, HDC held an impromptu press conference on Wednesday night where MD Fazul sought to defend the matter.
On Thursday morning, HDC’s MD Fazul was suspended. PCB said that to give space and provide full assistance to the police investigation regarding HDC, all members of the Board of Directors except the Chairman Ahmed Nasif have been suspended from 19 December 2024, until the investigation wraps up and the board decides on a course of action.
