Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has acknowledged that a lack of updates on cases submitted to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) is a common public complaint, and stated that efforts are underway to address the issue.

In a special interview given to the state media PSM, CP Naveen said that even after taking over as Acting Commissioner of Police, his top priority was to maintain public trust in the police institution.

CP Naveen said that they are looking into the public's concerns regarding their safety and security and what the police can do to address these issues, and are shaping police work accordingly.

The recently appointed CP said that not receiving updates on cases submitted to the police institution is a complaint received from several members of the public, and that they are currently working to improve this as well. In addition to this, the Commissioner of Police said that they are also working to further strengthen police investigations and to structure things in a way that the public will be more informed about investigative matters than before.

CP Naveen added that looking at the current situation, investigation matters are also very complex, and shaping police investigations is a challenge. Therefore, CP Naveen stressed that training, retraining, and building supervisors' skills are also things that will be done to improve these matters.

Further, the CP highlighted that they are also working to further strengthen the fulfillment of legal responsibilities.

CP Naveen revealed that to strengthen the relationship between the public and the police, he will focus more on further strengthening the initiatives that have already been started rather than starting new ones. As such, he noted that the Neighborhood Police is a successful initiative and that they will work to further strengthen this initiative in the future as well.

In addition to this, the Commissioner of Police stated that they will work to further strengthen the relationship with the public through technology and maintain public trust.
