A search has begun for a foreigner who went missing from a boat traveling from Addu City to the capital Malé City.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the missing person, a Nepali man, was traveling on a boat named "Seamax."

The man, named Raj Kumar, who was reported missing on Monday night, was working as a crew member on the boat. The police institution went on to reveal that the boat departed from Addu City at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday night.

It was confirmed that he was on the boat when it departed, and it is also known that he spoke with the boat's captain around 1:15 a.m.

He is believed to have gone missing at sea between Addu City and Fuvahmulah City when the boat was about eight miles away from Fuvahmulah City.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the incident.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is continuing the search operation for him.
