The fishermen's lobby, which advocates for the fishing industry, has called on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to facilitate a way for the projects initiated by former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration to advance the fishing industry, to continue without interruption.
Speaking to RaajjeTV after a meeting held with members of the "Fishermen's Lobby" at the President's Office on Wednesday afternoon, Captain Mohamed Hassan from the Fishermen's Lobby said that during the meeting, they shared the current state of the fishing industry, the state of work when President Muizzu came to power, and the dire situation faced by fishing families.
Captain Mohamed Hassan said that the work of the previous government to increase fish storage is currently on hold and that they requested it to be recommenced as soon as possible and to arrange for the industry to receive its intangible benefits.
Further he said that the former administration had brought a 750-ton brine tank to Kooddoo and that the harbor work there had commenced, the work in Felivaru had started and the work in Thinadhoo had also commenced alongside the work in Addu city.
He said they had requested the president to facilitate a way for the initiated projects to continue sustainably without interruption.
The invitation from the president was extended to the members of "Keyolhaa" news, which was created to speak up for fishermen's rights, and members of the fishermen's lobby.
The council members of the lobby are mostly captains, but the meeting was conducted with the inclusion of fishermen as well.
