A hefty amount of alcohol has been confiscated from a safari vessel.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that several bottles of alcohol and cans of beer were confiscated during a raid on a liveaboard vessel near Gadhdhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.

The raid was conducted under a court order, on Saturday.

The raid stemmed from an intel report received by the Drug Narcotics Intelligence department regarding the illegal possession and trade of alcohol on a safari boat off Gadhdhoo.

The police institution revealed that 1,224 cans of beer and 124 bottles of alcohol were discovered by officers who searched the boat.

These items have been taken into police custody, along with two individuals who were brought in for questioning in connection with the case.

They have since been released, after interrogation.

The operation was conducted jointly by Gadhdhoo Police Station, Drug Narcotics Intelligence, and the Rapid Response and High Visibility Team of the South Police Sub-Region.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
