The President met the Palestinian President on Monday

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sat down for talks with the President of the State of Palestine, Dr. Mahmoud Abbas.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79), as part of the president’s ongoing trip to the states.

Discussions saw the Palestinian president delivering a significant message to the global community.

Urging for international support and collaboration to address the Palestinian people’s plight, the leader of Palestine stressed that they are begging for a ceasefire, because, they are also “human”.

Expressing the unwavering support Maldivians have for the people of Palestine in every possible way, the Maldivian leader expressed hope that the Palestinian people will receive all their rightful entitlements.

Further, Muizzu promised that the Maldivian government would remain committed to continuously work towards securing international recognition of Palestine as an independent state.

Expressing gratitude for the Maldives' long-standing support, the Palestinian president highlighted that they were “always” aware of the support the people and government of Maldives have shown to the people of Palestine and that the Palestinians deeply appreciate the unwavering solidarity shown by the Maldives.

Discussions also touched upon areas of cooperation between the two nations.

Both leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to work together on matters of mutual interest, as well as further enhancing diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Palestine.

In an interview following his meeting with the Palestinian president, Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

As such, speaking with international media, the Maldivian leader said Maldivians stand in full solidarity with the Palestinian people and that every single Maldivian supports the Palestinian people and their cause.

Condemning the ongoing genocide and war crimes committed against the Palestinian people, Muizzu assured that the Maldives has always and would continue to support the Palestinian cause.

This comes at a time the issue of banning Israeli passports to prevent Israeli tourists from vacationing in the Maldives has been pending at the People’s Majlis for over 100 days, as Israel continues its relentless attacks on the innocent civilians of Gaza, in a bid to expunge the Palestinian people.

However, other matters submitted to the parliament after this issue, have been passed both within and outside of the official sittings, as requested by the government.

In addition to this, Muizzu was seen consuming a beverage from ‘Costa Coffee’ during his transit in New York on an official trip. The video was officially posted by his PR team, on the President’s Office official website and social media handles. Costa Coffee is a brand that is being boycotted by communities worldwide for benefitting from the genocide. This video churned immense public criticism.

Gaza’s health ministry has revealed that the number of Palestinians martyred in Israel's ongoing deadly attacks on Gaza has reached at least 41,431.

On Monday alone, 24 Palestinians were martyred, including a woman and her four children.

In addition to this, the number of people injured in Israeli attacks has exceeded 95,818.
