Seven receive National Award of Honor, 11 conferred National Award of Recognition

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has conferred National Awards of Honor, and Recognition.

The awards were conferred during an official ceremony held to commemorate National Day, at Dharubaaruge on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s ceremony saw the president conferring the National Award of Honor on seven individuals, and the National Award of Recognition on 10 individuals and a company.

The recipients of the National Award of Honor were presented with a commemorative shield and a badge of honor. The recipients of the National Award of Recognition received commemorative plaques.

The National Awards Committee determined the recipients for this year’s national awards as well. Tasked with selecting the recipients of the National Awards, the National Awards Committee also has the responsibility of vetting and selecting recipients of the President's Award for Special Achievement.

The National Award of Honor was conferred to:

  • The late Mohamed Thaufeeq for his enduring and significant contributions to the nation,
  • Dr. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf for his distinguished contributions to the health sector,
  • Mohamed Majid for his notable work in developing the small and medium enterprises sector,
  • Moosa Latheef for his significant contributions to the media and news sector,
  • Mohamed Nasir for his remarkable achievements in the sporting sector,
  • Ahmed Mohamed for his exceptional contributions to the sporting sector and
  • Hassan Manik for his outstanding contributions to the performing arts sector.

The following individuals received the National Award of Recognition:

  • From the field of Quranic studies, Qari Ahmed Ibrahim for his outstanding efforts to promote Quranic studies
  • From the field of Quranic studies, Usthaz Abdul Rahman Yoonus for his exceptional efforts to promote Quranic studies
  • From the field of Islamic studies, Sheikh Izzuddin Adnan for his notable efforts to educate the public on Islam, Islamic values and religion
  • From the field of Islamic studies, Sheikh Ahmed Maumoon for his important efforts to educate the public on Islam, Islamic values and religion
  • From the education field, Ismail Sajid for his noteworthy efforts to train and develop technical individuals
  • From the fisheries field, Ibrahim Thahkhaan for his significant efforts to preserve and enhance pole and line fishing
  • From the field of trade and economy, Riyan Pvt Ltd for their exceptional efforts to develop business sector
  • From the field of trade and economy, Amir Mansoor for his admirable efforts to introduce revolutionary services and products to the market
  • From the boat building sector, Abdul Rahman Yoosuf for his outstanding efforts to preserve and enhance boat and yacht building sectors
  • From the culinary arts sector, Fathimath Umar for her praiseworthy efforts to train and develop technical individuals
  • From the youth sector, Hussain Ali for his exceptional efforts to promote enhance volunteer work in the community.

The president offered congratulations to all recipients of national awards, during his address at the ceremony.

Conferred annually, the National Awards recognize and encourage the efforts of individuals and organizations that contribute to national development and societal benefit.
