Two Maldivian men have been arrested in a drug raid, conducted in the capital Malé City.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the drug raid was carried out by officers of the Police Intelligence Unit and the Drug Enforcement Department, following a tip-off.

The raid was carried out inside an apartment in the congested capital city, on August 3.

Arrested were a 21-year-old and a 35-year-old.

Initial findings indicate that the substances suspected to be narcotics found inside the apartment weighed 72.1 grams.

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for their remand hearing, the 21-year-old was remanded for a period of 15 days and the 35-year-old was given 12 days in custody.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case, at the Drug Enforcement Department.
