A 60-year-old Maldivian man was arrested

The remand of the man arrested under accusations of doing black magic has been extended.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) arrested a 60-year-old Maldivian man in connection with the case of black magic practice in Funadhoo island of Shaviyani atoll.

The arrest was made on 3 May 2024.

He was initially remanded for a 15-day period.

The man’s remand was extended for 10 days, which expired on Tuesday.

Upon being presented to the Funadhoo Magistrate Court following the expiration of his remand, his remand was extended for another five days.

Protests were also held in Funadhoo island against the man accused of practicing black magic.

According to sources from the island, the issue surfaced after black magic was done in an attempt to harm the constituency’s parliamentarian.
