Seychelles will support the Maldives in all areas, says the President of the Republic of Seychelles Wavel Ramkalawan.
The Seychellois president gave this assurance during a meeting held with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Monday.
The meeting was held as part of the Maldivian leader’s ongoing visit to Antigua and Barbuda, on the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference on SIDS (SIDS4).
Discussions between the two leaders revolved around the challenges faced by both countries as Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Further, they engaged in talks regarding ways in which SIDS can work together to overcome challenges as well as the significance of the Fourth International Conference on SIDS.
A range of issues including collaboration in youth issues, people-to-people exchanges, the security of the Indian Ocean Region, and national efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, sea level rise, and coral reef restoration were also discussed.
President Muizzu and the Seychellois president went on to shed light on the common positions on a number of thematic areas, and agreed to enhance cooperation.
Before concluding the meeting, the two presidents expressed hope to see enhanced bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two island nations.
The SIDC conference is taking place from May 27 – 30 and revolves around the theme "Charting the Course Towards Resilient Prosperity."
