The national flag of Maldives is to be flown at half-mast in honor of the late President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the decision on Monday.
As such, it has been declared that the national flag will be flown at half-mast from May 21 – 23, in mourning for the late Iranian leader.
Maldives joins world leaders across the world to mourn the death of the late Iranian president.
In a message of condolences posted on social media platform ‘X’, President Muizzu expressed deep sorrow in learning of the untimely death of President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi of Iran in the tragic helicopter crash.
He prayed for Allah to bless the souls of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and others who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident and to grant them Jannatul Firdaus.
The Maldivian leader went on to extend thoughts and prayers on behalf of the Maldivian government and people, to the bereaved families and people of Iran at this time of profound grief.
He sent a message of condolences to Vice President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber following the Iranian president and foreign minister’s death.
Muizzu acknowledged that President Raisi's sudden demise undoubtedly leaves a deep void in the hearts of the Iranian people.
Noting that the Iranian leader’s resolute decisions upheld the values of Islam, bringing solace and strength to many, the Maldivian president added that Maldivians join him in extending deep sympathies.
Iran’s president was confirmed dead after a helicopter carrying him and other officials crashed in a mountainous and forested area of the country on Sunday. The incident is to have occurred during adverse weather conditions, according to international media. The helicopter was reported to have been missing for hours, after the crash. The Iranian leader’s death, alongside several other delegates, was confirmed on Monday morning.
