A large stash of alcohol in police custody, confiscated during multiple operations, has been destroyed.
In a publication on Tuesday, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that 105 bottles of alcohol and 57 cans of beer were destroyed.
The alcohol bottles that were destroyed on Sunday were in the custody of police stations in islands of Lhaviyani atoll.
The destroyed alcohol included those confiscated from tourists that arrived at Madivaru Domestic Airport for departure between October 2023 and April 2024.
Officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) that searched the tourists and confiscated the alcohol and beers from them, handed them over to the police.
Further, among those destroyed were alcohol and beer that were in the custody of Hinnavaru Police Station, in connection with different cases.
The alcohol was destroyed under the supervision of the relevant police committee and under the set legal procedure for it.
