The government of Maldives has strongly condemned the recent airstrike by Israel that hit the World Central Kitchen convoy, killing seven aid workers from different countries.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Maldives condemns the Israeli airstrike in the strongest of terms.

Maldives believes the targeting of aid workers is a gross violation of international humanitarian law.

Stressing that perpetrators must be held accountable, the government of Maldives has called on the international community to take decisive action to ensure the protection and safety of humanitarian workers in conflict zones.

Maldives has also called on communities across the globe to enable the provision of unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The Maldivian government has extended deepest condolences to the World Central Kitchen and the families of the victims during this time of grief, on behalf of the people.

Maldives also prays for the swift recovery of those injured in the inhumane attack.

According to Reuters, the aid workers were killed when their convoy was hit shortly after they oversaw the unloading of 100 tons of food brought to Gaza by sea. Australian, British and American citizens were among seven World Central Kitchen aid workers killed as it was leaving its Deir al-Balah warehouse.
